Prologue

Hello Readers,
When reading a work, it is very helpful and insightful to know the writer, their background, worldview, etc. Knowing just a little about the author can reveal underlying themes and story points in the work which you might not have realized otherwise. In this spirit, I will give you, the reader, a little insight into me as the writer of this blog.
I grew up in Maryland, north of Baltimore, with my parents and my two sisters. Like many of us, I drew a lot and always had my eyes on an artistic career, but I also was very involved in sports. I played soccer for most of my life and still play on the plaza with the soccer club now. When I got to high school I stopped playing soccer, mostly, and picked up rugby. Rugby was really my athletic focus in high school and when it came time to look at colleges, I was torn between a college with a rugby team and a bad art program or a school without rugby and a good art program. In the end, Ringling was the only college I applied for.
I was homeschooled until 7th grade after which I went to a classical Christian school. It was in 9th grade literature, with the help of one of the best English teachers I ever had, I really learned to enjoy reading classical literature. It is with her I learned how to annotate, comprehend, and see the meaning behind the words of these classic works. We read stories like Beowulf, The Canterbury Tales, and Macbeth. I have dyslexia so I have always struggled with reading and writing but that year brought a new excitement about literature. I am thankful that, despite my difficulties reading, now I can read and analyze a story which is something I am truly grateful for.
I am excited for this class. So far, I found listening to the audiobooks while working very peaceful and to some extent it gives me the feeling I am making the best of my time. Instead of listening to the same old tunes or watching the same old show, which is distracting, I get to listen to these classics I have heard so much about, but have never read.
Thanks for reading,
Samantha Kelly
